5 Days / 4 Nights
Day 1
A 30 minute flight from Quito will take you to Coca, the jungle city. This is where the real adventure begins. Our staff will drive you to Orellana port where you will board a motorized kayak that will transport you to the Napo Wildlife Center.
You will be able to view some of the Napo River’s aquatic birds as well as the surrounding nature during the two-hour ride.
The Napo Cultural Center welcomes guests with a refreshing traditional drink. Guests are then shown to their cabins, which offer stunning views of the natural surroundings and natural gardens surrounding the lodge.
You can experience real life in the Amazon rainforest once you have settled in to your new home in the Kichwa anangu community.
You can join us for a short walk along the Napo riverbank, to see the beautiful sunset over the natural islands and beaches of the Napo riverbank. We’ll then return to the lodge for a traditional, delicious dinner at the restaurant. The chef will be happy to show you how to prepare your meal.
Day 2
(OPTIONAL). We rise at 4:30am to take part in an ancient tradition of the Kichwa community. After the wayusa tea ceremony, the body will be energized. The ritual then continues with listening to Kichwa songs and peacefully contemplating life and important issues. The elders can interpret dreams.
After a delicious buffet breakfast, we will visit the Canopy Observation Tower. This tower allows you to experience the jungle from the top of the trees. It is located in the forest, at a height of 36 meters, and can be reached by walking about 30 minutes. This is a place like no other!
Enjoy a close-up look at colorful birds like macaws and macaws, flycatchers, monkey species, and tanagers. You can see how spiders and howler monkeys eat the fruits and seeds from nearby trees. This allows you to compare your own family dynamics or appetite.
After touring the Canopy Tower, we’ll visit the Napo Wildlife Center for a delicious lunch at the lodge’s restaurant. You can enjoy 360 degree views of the Anangu Lake, and its surroundings. After lunch, you have the option of choosing from the many NWC options: reading a book, relaxing in the hammocks or climbing up the observation tower in the dining room for birdwatching.
Day 3
You can visit some of the most beautiful parrot clay licks in Ecuador’s Amazon Jungle by getting up at dawn. We will first paddle down the Anangu stream until we reach the Kichwa Anangu village. After a 10-minute ride in a motorized canoe we will arrive at the parrot clay-licks, where hundreds of colorful birds gather to lick minerals found in the soil, which helps them digest the fruits, seeds, and other foods they eat.
We can walk a short distance to reach the next parakeets clay lick. You will see hundreds of parakeets perched high on the trees, waiting to get the right time to eat the soil’s minerals and salts. We are hungry and will now enjoy lunch at the riverside, in the welcoming area.
We’ll be visiting the Interpretative Centre in the afternoon where you will be welcomed by the women of the community. While you learn about the customs and traditions of the community, enjoy their traditional rituals and dances. We’ll return to the Napo Wildlife Center Lodge for dinner and to rest up for tomorrow’s adventure.
