4 Days / 3 Nights
Day 1
A 30-minute flight from Quito to Coca will take you over the eastern Andes mountains. A 5 minute transfer will get you to La Mision Port. Here you will board a covered motor-boat. We will be riding along the Napo River for approximately 2 hours, stopping to enjoy a box lunch and coffee on the way.
You will be able to spot birds such as kingfishers and herons along the way. We disembark at the Napo Wildlife Center’s entrance dock for a brief break and to use the bathroom. We then take you on a peaceful, 2 hour paddle canoe trip, surrounded by wildlife and trees, paddling along the narrow creek to the lake where our lodge is located.
You may see many species of monkeys along with large birds such as parrots, macaws, and toucans. An afternoon arrival at Napo Wildlife Center will provide a stunning view of the Anangu Lake. A welcome drink and briefing from the local manager will follow.
Day 2
Get up early for breakfast and a quick start to get to the best parrot clay licks in Ecuador. They are located approximately 1 hour from the lodge. To ensure the best viewing experience, guests should arrive at this location just before the parrot activity begins at the clay lick from 7:30 to 8:30am. On a daily basis, you can see 11 different species of parakeets and macaws. Other animals visit the sanctuary on a more frequent basis.
Later, you can hike along a forest track to visit the Kichwa Community in Anangu. You will also have the opportunity to spend time with a family participating in one of their many activities. You can share lunch with the Kichwa community at Napo Cultural Center.
Continue on to the next parrot clay lick by hiking for approximately 30 minutes through Terra Firme Forest. We may be able find parakeets and parrot species, depending on the weather.
A delicious dinner awaits you when you return to the lodge in the evening or late afternoon.
Day 3
We leave the lodge after another breakfast to enjoy a stunning view of the rainforest from a canopy tower that is 36 meters tall. This is a great way for us to get a glimpse of the bustle and hustle of life above ground. This tower is located 30 minutes away from the lodge in the Terra Firme forest. You will pass through various levels of the forest as you climb the tower of 12 floors. Finally, you will reach the top of a large Ceiba tree.
The tree’s canopy is occupied by a multitude of colorful tanagers. While blue-and-yellow macaws fly by, cute spider monkeys look for fruit in nearby trees. The forest canopy’s life is laid out before your eyes by two large toucan species, which call in the morning and afternoon. You will find birds that you cannot see from the forest floor below suddenly standing right next to you. They are often unaware of your presence. The Napo Wildlife Center’s canopy tower offers a new way to see the world.
The lodge serves lunch. You can spend the afternoon exploring another Terra Firme trail. This allows you to walk through primary forest, looking for lizards, manakins and the rare, endemic Golden-mantled Tamarin monkey. Enjoy the trip by canoe in the dugout and meet the Giant Otter family.
Day 4
The final day of your trip will include an early departure and a 2 hour canoeing excursion back to the Napo River. You may see rare birds, giant otters and monk saki monkeys along the creek. Once you reach the river, you’ll transfer to the motorized kayak to return to your starting point. After a 2 hour boat ride, you will reach Coca to check-in for the Coca – Quito flight. The exact schedule will be determined based on departure details and arrangements.
